Expanded polystyrene, often referred to it as EPS, is a lightweight, rigid, plastic foam insulation material produced from solid beads of polystyrene. The expanded polystyrene beads are initially embedded with a blowing agent, which enables the polystyrene to foamy and expand when subject to steam, thus, creating a uniform closed cell structure which is filled with air. As the bead is expanded up to 40 times its original size, EPS becomes incredibly light yet strong material. It is used in a multitude of applications, including construction, where it is used for insulation in walls, roofs and foundations; in packaging, where it protects goods and prevents damage during shipping; and in crafting and design. EPS also has excellent resistance to cold, heat, and moisture, making it a versatile and highly practical material.
