Pomegranate is a fruit-bearing deciduous shrub or small tree that grows between 5 to 10 m tall. Known scientifically as Punica granatum, the pomegranate has been revered as a symbol of health, fertility and eternal life for thousands of years. It is natively from the region of modern-day Iran and northern India, and has been cultivated since ancient times throughout the Mediterranean region. This healthy fruit is packed with numerous essential nutrients, including high levels of vitamins C and K and dietary fibers. Its juicy seeds, also called arils, are rich in antioxidants and have been known to help in improving heart health, aiding in digestion, and reducing the risk of various types of cancer.
